Description

The Draa Valley, south of Ouarzazate, and the Tafilalt valley, south of Er-Rachidia, are the two great routes to the Sahara

The valleys are interconnected by the Dadès valley, which covers 120 km (75 miles) between Ouarzazate and Boumalne du Dadès

It cuts through a desert plateau at an average altitude of 1,000 to 1,500 m (3,282 to 4,923 ft), set between the High Atlas on its northern side and the foothills of Jbel Sarhro on its southern side

Other valleys, irrigated by wadis flowing down from the Atlas, impinge on the Dadės valley

Negotiable on foot or by four-wheel-drive vehicle, they give access to the interior of the High Atlas

in this trip we will explore this region, experience the scenic oases and visiting the most interesting ksour

Itinerary

  • Marrakech arrival at Dades Valley

We begin our 4-day journey from the city of Marrakech, where we will pick you up from your hotel in the morning in our private transport. As we make our way through the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n Tichka pass, marvel at the stunning landscape of rugged beauty and the picturesque Berber villages – get your cameras ready! And if the friendly village children wave at you, remember to wave back. We head towards Kasbah of Ait ben Haddou, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has been the filming backdrop for Hollywood movies such as The Gladiator and more recently the popular TV series The Game of Thrones. After the visit, we proceed to lunch before resuming our journey towards Ouarzazate, passing through the Valley of Roses along the way to Dades Valley. Upon arrival at Dades Valley, we will have dinner and spend the night at the Riad.

  • Dades Valley arrival at ERG CHEBBI

This morning we will make our way towards Merzouga, the gateway to Erg Chebbi where the fiery orange sand dunes of the Sahara Desert await. On route, we will travel through the town of Tinghir to visit the Todra Gorge, which is known to be one of the most spectacular canyons around the world. After the visit, we proceed to Tinejdad for lunch. After lunch, we continue to make our way through the Tafilalet region, the largest Saharan oasis of Morocco, passing through the town of Erfoud before arriving at Merzouga. We will store our bags at a local hotel and leave our modern transport to become true explorers traversing the Erg Chebbi sand dunes on camel backs to arrive at our camp site. Here, we will sit on the sand dunes to admire the beautiful sunset – but this is not yet the end as the night is just about to begin. Tonight, we will enjoy dinner at our camp site, where we will sit by the camp fire with drumming music, songs and laughter. Most of all, be mesmerised by the stars before retiring for the night in your Berber tent.

  • ERG CHEBBI arrival at Merzouga

Wake up an hour early to live an hour more – we encourage you to rise early to witness sunrise over the Sahara and welcome a new day of adventure. After breakfast, we will depart from the desert on our camels. After freshening up, we will travel along the Erg Chebbi to see the giant sand dunes that resemble pyramids. From here, we travel to the Tissardmin, which is rich in fossils and has a varied landscape of mountains ranges, deserts and sandy dunes. We continue our journey passing by desert nomadic settlements, where you will have the opportunity to learn about their life in the desert. We will also make a stop to take in the view of the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi before arriving at Khamlia Village, which is also known as Gnawa Village. Here, we will be treated to a performance of the enchanting Gnawa’s music before heading back to the hotel. You will have the afternoon free for you to explore Merzouga at leisure. Tonight, we will stay at Merzouga with dinner at the hotel.

  • MERZOUGA arrival at Marrakech

After breakfast, we will depart from the desert to Marrakech, we continue our journey via Tazarine and have lunch at the town of Nkoub, which is surrounded by Saghrou Mountains. After lunch, our drive will bring us pass the beautiful ribbon of water of the Draa Valley and we will cross the Tizi n Tichka pass at Ait Saouen to arrive at Ouarzazate. From here, we return to Marrakech via the Atlas Mountains and Tizi n Tichka pass, giving you another chance to feast your eyes on the dramatic landscape. On arrival at Marrakech, we will drop you at your hotel and hope we will have the opportunity again to show you more of Morocco the next time.
